History of University of Kentucky Ceres Chapter
In October and November of 1995, Stefanie Cruz and Vanessa Baker were both looking
into the possibility of beginning an agricultural fraternity for women. Although there
were two fraternities for males interested in agriculture, there was not a group for women.
At first, Stefanie and Vanessa were not aware of the others efforts. After learning of each
others similar interests, they joined together and worked to begin U.K.'s first agricultural
fraternity for women.
After receiving information from CERES Women's International Fraternity, the first meeting
was held on January 15, 1996. A group of nineteen women joined together and began
working to achieve goals to become colonized. The group accomplished its goal and was colonized
on June 1, 1996.
The following fall semester brought a successful pledge class and more hard workers.
By December of 1996, all the objectives to charter had been accomplished and the packet
of information was sent to the international board for review. January of 1997 brought another group
of hard working pledges.
The petition to charter was approved by the
international board and the alpha, beta and gamma classes were
initiated along with the 13 association members on April 26, 1997.
